How can I keep the carpenter bees from eating my wooden picnic tables and benches? They threaten my grandchild who do not know they are harmless, except to wood.

Janet, Your best bet is to paint the wood. Varnish can help to deter them but paint is more reliable. Females can sting if provoked.
