When should you mow a new lawn. Should you spray for weeds and crabgrass. Lawn was planted on June 1st. Grass is about l and 1/2 inches high to 2 inches. It has been watered every day or every other day. Thanks for your help.

Ernest, Good questions. Mow a new lawn when it gets to be about 3-3 1/2 inches tall and mow down to 2 1/2-3 inches. you could go a bit shorter once we get cooler and hopefully wetter weather. Make sure you water thoroughly so the top 8 inches or so is moist. Light frequent sprinkling can cause the roots to grow just at the surface. I would wait until October to control any broadleaf weeds with herbicide. I would wait until next April to apply preemergent crabgrass control if needed.
