Ornamental grasses

Hi MG's, I am a MG from Cook South Suburban Unit. I recently purchased a cottage in Shelby County (Pana Lake). I wish to plant ornamental grasses but here in Chicago it is too late this year for them to get established. I will be planting in Shelby County on the weekend of October 15th. Will it be too late for grasses at that time? Thanks for your time. Carol

Carol, Most of our ornamental grasses, other than Feather Reed grass, are warm season grasses so it is really too late to be safe. I would wait until May of next year. Check to see if what grasses you are interested in are warm season or cool season. I would wait until next April even for cool season grasses.
