sweetgum balls

Whats the scoop on stopping sweet gum balls on my sweet gum trees. Does it work, and who does it in Central Illinois?

Casey, There has been a spray product (Florel) out for a number of years to reduce the number of sweet gum balls and other fruits. Timing is absolutely critical. It has to be applied as flowers emerge/develop. Now some arborists are using a different product called Snipper that is an injectible but timing is still critical. It is a fairly new procudet so jury is till out but initial reports are that it works fairly well if applied correctly. Check with certified arborists in your telephone yellow pages to see if they are using it. May want to look for someone with some experience in using it or Florel.
