Farm Land

What are the local and state agencies doing to protect our precious farm land from being developed into crowded home developments. Thousands of acres are being destroyed each year which in turn raises the price of produce and dairy because of lower output from a lesser number of farms. What can be done to make farming more profitable for the family farmer? What can be done to help those who would like to try to keep the land agricultural, but do not have the resources to make it happen?

There is a group called McHenry Co. Farmland Preservation that is working on the issues you raised. They are working to purchase development rights on farmland that will insure that farming will always take place on that land. The problem to date has been a lack of funding. The McHenry Co. Farm Bureau has been taking a leading role with this group.
