Is mulching good for magnolia bushes? or does it cause any harm?

Kat - All plants benefit from mulching if done correctly. The best mulches are organic, leaf, and shredded bark compost because they provide nutrients as they break down. Mulch should be maintained at a depth of 3 - 4 inches (and I don't mean add 3 - 4 inches each year, either!) It is also important to maintain a mulch free area within 6 inches of the stem(s) to discourage rodents and allow the trunk flare to dry. Remember, you are mulching the roots, not the trunk! All your woodies will love you!
