Hi, I am wondering how money per year, across the board, is spent on herbicides in Illinois.

Bob: The most current figures for "pesticide costs" (amount of money spent for agrichemicals) that I could find for Illinois were from 2004. I could find no figure for the total amount of money spent on herbicides, pesticides, etc. What I did find was information on the average cost of pesticides used on corn and soybeans in Illinois in 2004. That figure was $32 per acre (Farm Economics Facts and Opinions, Issue 4, 2004) and if you multiply that by 21.5 million acres planted to corn and soybeans in 2004 (USDA NASS). You get a lot of money being spent: $687,000,000 in Illinois in 2004. I hope this helps you a little. As I discovered there is very little information collected on the amount of money spent on pesticides.
