Teaching Your Dog to Come

Don’t give up if the dog doesn’t follow your commands right away.  As with anything, it will take practice and repetition.  You will be on the way to having a well-behaved dog!

Just as you like to be rewarded for doing a good job, so does your dog. Always reward your dog immediately after he does something he has been asked to do…with praise, petting, a favorite toy, a smile. During early training, yummy treats can be used to reward a dog, but make sure you use small treats and that you gradually replace treats with something your dog likes that is not food. You don’t want him to be too heavy!
