The 'Half Moon' sailed from Amsterdam on April 4 or 6, 1609. They traveled along the coast of Norway and the coast of Novaya Zemlya and turned west headed for warmer temperatures. It led them to Maine where members of the crew went ashore and cut timber to replace the mast of the 'Half Moon.'
