Greetings David and thank you for your question. Unfortunately, I won't be of much assistance to you regarding your question.
As I've stated many times throughout this forum, more often than not, only an "on-site" evaluation of the affected tree(s) by a professional tree care specialist (forester, certified arborist, entomologist, pathologist, or horticulturist) can provide you a legitimate diagnosis for tree health concerns. Even after an on-site evaluation is conducted, further plant tissue analysis may be needed. A local university Plant Clinic may prove useful in those cases http://www.labservices.uoguelph.ca/units/pdc/
Best of luck!
