Premature Leaf Drop

The picture of the leaf on this website is the tree I writing about. Hopefully, it's oak. Anyway, we have this big, beautiful tree in our yard and the leaves are falling right now. The neighbor's tree is like ours but the leaves on his tree are turning yellow and dropping fewer leaves. What's happening? It's not even fall. This happened last year, making our tree bare of leaves. I noticed lots of big roots are showing on the surface of the yard, and it looks like insects have a field day with the leaves.

Thank you.

Greetings Donald,

Unfortunately, this is not a very effective venue to diagnose tree health questions. Therefore, if you are genuinely worried about the health and vigor of your tree, than I strongly suggest that you contact your local Maryland Cooperative Extension office, certified arborist, urban forester, or state forester for an on-site evaluation of the affected tree(s).

Best of luck!
