I have a peach seed. How long would it take for a seed to grow into a fruit producing tree?

Greetings Edna,

Based on my limited knowledge of fruit trees (I'm not a horticulturist) and from what I've gathered over the years, it is usually best to simply purchase a fruit tree and plant it rather than plant the seed. Why? Because most fruit trees are vegetatively propagated.

How long will it take for the plant to bear fruit? It depends on the variety, pollination, planting site, growing conditions, sunlight, water, fertilization, etc. Typical nursery peach trees can bear fruit within 2-5 years.

For fruit tree variety recommendations in New York, please contact your local Cooperative Extension office.
