Chokecherries?

I have a question about cherries. I got from a friend 8 chokecherry plants which I planted about 7 years ago. The rabbits kept them pruned almost to the ground until about 4 years ago when i put a fence around them. Now my question is are they chokecherries. They are about 1/2 inch in diameter, blue black in color, no pits and they are shrubs, not trees. My friend doesn't know where he got them so he has no clue what they could be. I remember when I was a child I would sample chokecherries just to see how bad they were. These are not what I remember. They are not sweet but they don't choke you either. They are still on the plants in Central Minnesota and the birds don't eat them. Would you have a clue as to what they are. The leaf looks like a cherry leaf and is starting to turn red Thanks Al Barthel

Greetings Al,

In order to give you quality answer, I would need to see some quality digital pictures of the leaves, twigs, fruit, and shrub.

I'm by no means a woody ornamental guy, so I may have to refer you to your local MN Extension.
