Pruning Crimson King Norway Maple

I have a Crimson King Maple I planted about 3 years ago, It has one very tall growth, about 15 ft. high, but its not the main branch or trunk of the tree. Can I prune it, and how should I do so to match the other branches?

Thanks for the help!

Greetings Carol,

I would certainly prune this branch anomaly to maintain good crown symmetry. Explain how to do this via the internet forum is a bit more complicated.

Several excellent guides for pruning trees may be viewed at the following websites:

http://www.na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/howtos/ht_prune/prun001.htm

http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG0628.html

If in doubt, feel free to contact your local Extension office for on-site assistance.
