Gingko Propagation

I have a 100 year old gingko that is sprouting what looks like volunteers from its base. I've been told they can be propagated from cuttings but this seems like it would harm the mother tree. Ideas?

Greetings Adina:

I'm sorry, but this question is more appropriate for a horticulturist or an ornamental horticulturist. Maybe your local Kansas State Extension office can be of more service to you regarding this question.

However, removal of these "basal sprouts" will not harm the parent tree.

Best wishes!
