Top-Pruned White Pines (NY)

My tree company cut the tops off of my newly planted white pines. He also told me not to worry about fertilizing because when he fertilizes the lawn, the tree roots will pick up the fertilizer. He also told me to spray that foam stuff into the tree woods so water doesn't get into them. This sounds crazy to me. What do you think?

Greetings Dawn,

Well, I guess I'm really confused as to "why" your tree company cut the tops off your newly planted white pines?

I agree that no supplemental fertilizers are needed at this time. However, do not spray any "foam stuff" on your trees - this will only interfere with the process of compartmentalizing the wound.

Based on what your telling me, I'm thinking you need to consult a different tree care specialist, preferably someone who is a certified arborist with a horticulture or forestry degree.
