Oak Lumber Pricing (IN)

We harvested several trees last year..hiring a portable saw mill as the first step and now the wood is kiln dried and stored locally. It was to go for flooring but plans have changed. We are trying to figure out where to find reliable prices for selling the wood. The man who owns the custom interiors business is willing to buy it, but we would like to make sure we are getting a fair deal since we have quite a bit of money into it so far. Any suggestions? We have about 1600 board feet of cherry and another 1600 of red oak that has been kiln dried but not ripped. We were told it is grade common 1 and only good for flooring. Thanks!

Greetings Darla :

Seeing that I don’t dabbled much in “lumber”, might I suggest you contact local sources: Indiana portable sawmill owners; local wood working clubs/stores; www.woodfinder.com; www.woodweb.com; etc.

My personal suggestion is to contact a local Tree Farmer who owns and operates a small sawmill & lumber business for pricing information. For such a list of local Tree Farmers, please contact your local IN DNR forestry office.

Best of luck!
