I have 20 emerald green arborvitea that were planted 3 weeks ago. The needles on some branches on the bottom are turning yellow but are not falling off. They are few but not many. Is this common for newley planted arborvitea? Will this yellowing continue throughout the establishing process?

Greetings John:

Let's say that it is not uncommon to see yellowing foliage of newly planted conifers (e.g., cedar, pine, spruce, redcedar, etc.). This yellowing is usually the result of planting shock and moisture stress. The affected trees should return to their original dark green sssuming these trees were of good quality, handled properly, planted properly, and the weather cooperates.
