I have a 7' blue spruce that we've grown in our yard for the past 6 years. it has always been very spindely yet every year it had new growth. over the past 2 years it seem to become hardier...more dense new growth. Now this year it seems to be dying out. all this years growth is turing brown. What can I do?

Greetings Dennis:

Depending on the site's soil texture and drainage, the problem may or may not be related to soil moisture: too much or too little. However, the problem could also be related to insects, pathogens, and other weather conditions (too hot, too cold, high desiccating winds, etc.).

Seeing that your blue spruce's problem could be the effect of one or multiple "things", please contact your local VA state forestry office or your local VA Extension office for on-site assistance.
