Greetings Fred:
I receive this question all the time and the simple answer to your question is, "It depends!"
What is the diameter of the tree(s); how many merchantable logs are in the tree(s); what is the quality of the log(s); are there visual external bark defects; are there internal log defects; how much volume of black walnut are we talking about; timber trees or yard trees; etc.
Black walnut value and demand in Illinois is still very strong. If you are truly interested in marketing your black walnut trees, please contact a local professional consulting forester and/or you local TN state forestry agency.
