Phragmites | Common Reed (IL)

Hi I recently purchased 13 acres and have begun trying to remove multiflora roses as well as the bush honeysuckle. Our motto seems to be if we have a lot of it .... it can't be good. We have a creek and neighboring pond that seem to be inunduated with what i think is common reed. Any ideas of how to get rid of it and should I be getting rid of the reed? Thanks Leslie
