Dutch Elm Disease (IL)

An arborist has been innoculating my two elm trees for the past 6 years (with Arbortech). The last innoculation was in July 2008. Now, the Village claims one or both have Dutch Elm Disease! I thought the innoculation was 100 percent effective. Is it normal to have DED appear after frequent and recent innoculations?

Greetings Peter:

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 100% effective in the prevention of Dutch Elm Disease.

Based on some quick research, repeated stem injections are not recommended because they may cause damage to the bark and conductive tissue of the trees.
