Newly Planted Red Maples (MO)

I have just moved here from Pekin, Illinois to be closer to children. My wife is a Master Gardener. We just planted 7 large red Maple trees with 6 in caliper. I have watered them extensively even using a Ross Root feeder to get the water to the roots. Although they look very healthy, the leaves are small and some of them are turning red. Should I be concerned? Any other advice. We paid a lot for these trees and don't want to loose them. Thank you.

Greetings Kenneth:

My initial concern, based on what you've written, is that you may be over-watering these newly planted trees. Newly planted trees do require a calculated watering regiment if adequate precipitation (e.g., rainfall) does not occur. Your water regiment is typically a factor of: precipitation, weather and temperature, soil texture, tree species, and size of the tree.

Best of luck!
