I have 90 acres of land in central TX. It is almost 100% wooded with mainly black jack and post oaks. We have had this land for more than 10 years now and have recently noticed a large number of post oaks dying. The first indication of a tree that is going to die is a narrow stripping of bark from the base up through the tree. These strips of missing bark almost look like a lighting strike and will grow in numbers around the tree in a very short order. The tree will always die when you see the first sign and will lose all of its bark when it is all said and done. It doesn't follow a consistent pattern, like from tree to neighboring tree but has seemed to confine it self to about 10 acres so far. Any thoughts? Dave
