I read an article in the Moline Dispatch (Oct. 4) on walnut harvesting in Toledo, Iowa. The article says this can be an excellent fundraiser. Other than the Missouri company mentiioned in the article, who buys harvested black walnuts? I am just curious as to whether this should be persued further as a possible fundraiser for a youth group.

Greetings Timothy:

Hammons Product Company, as you mentioned, buys a lot of black walnut seed. University of Kentucky extension forestry also publishes a list of seed buyers, though none are from Illinois.

Other possible buyers of black walnut seed include state and private nurseries who produce a lot of bareroot seedlings: WI DNR State Nursery, IN DNR State Nurseries, and IL DNR State Nurseries.
