We have a few acres that I would like scatter 1.5 -2 inch b&b or container trees. What trees would you recommend planting to get a good variety. We have sugar maples, red oak, swamp white oak , and white pine (wind break) already planted but would like more variety. Thanks!

Greetings Brent:

Without knowing more about the site and soil types (pH, fertility, drainage, etc.), I can only provide you with general guidance. If this is an upland planting site, you may wish to go with native species such as n. red oak, chinkapin oak, white oak, bur oak; mixed hickory species including pecan; yellow-poplar and cucumbertree; baldcypress or dawn-redwood (non-native); white fir (non-native); persimmon; blackgum; Kentucky coffeetree; etc. Your options are virtually endless...

For a list of native tree and shrub species, please visit: http://www.inhs.uiuc.edu/~kenr/woody.html

Best of luck!
