Blue Spruce (CO)

I have two 50-65' blue spruce trees on the side of my house that have grown together. They have spread onto the roof, in to the porch, and are slowly but surely taking over my lawn and sprinkler system. I've read about trimming from the inside out, but getting inside the trees would be almost impossible. Do you have any helpful suggestions, other than taking them out?

Greetings Annette:

Pruning is likely your best bet, and yes it can be a little tricky to position yourself to begin the pruning process on a fully developed blue spruce as these trees do not have soft needles.

However, I want to make it perfectly clear that landowners and homeowners should contact state forestry staff (state forestry agency or local Colorado State University Extension specialists) in order to receive local expertise and on-site assistance.

Best of luck!
