Ravines and Pro-Active Erosion Control (IL)

Ravines are a frequent terrain feature around Vermilion County. When there is a very steep wild slope at the edge of a residential property, what is the best way to deal with it? This ravine is full of trees, which I consider one of the most valuable aspects of the property. I am wondering about erosion, and if some particular approach should be employed.

Greetings Judith:

This is an excellent question and an issue that certainly needs to be addressed across the state. Probably the best place to go for technical assistance is your local United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) office.

To find the your local USDA NRCS office, please refer to the following Web site:

Best of luck!
