Locating Bur Oak Acorns

my daughter is doing a 4-H project on the tricentennial bur oak tree in Peoria, IL. We have been trying to locate a bur oak acorn to put on the poster since they are so neat looking. We have already searched the internet, gone out looking in the woods by a bur oak grove, and asked at Forest Park Nature Center. Do you know where we could buy or borrow one? Thanks, Laura Bradshaw 309-694-3241

Greetings Laura:

With a little bit of persistence, I'm confident that you will be able to find a bur oak acorn out in a nearby forest, park, cemetery, etc.--it may not be the prettiest acorn or acorn cup, but it should help with the 4-H poster project. Make sure to look under the leaf litter :-)

Alternatively, you may try to contact a local nature preserve/center with the Peoria Park District.

Good luck and good "acorn" hunting!
