We are cleaning up some of our forest trees. Are the elm tree saplings ones we should be cutting down? Are ther good elms and bad elms? Which ones are they? Thanks

Greetings Deb:

Although we tend to remove a lot of elm trees (slippery and American) that tend to compete with our more desirable woodland species, I cannot in good faith simply tell you to remove these trees. Any good forester will tell you that you need to have an on-site assessment by a professional forester.

Your professional forester will be able to prescribe a recommended intermediate stand management treatment to meet your desired stand objectives.
