I have one 60' tire Blk walnut tree. It's coming down next spring. I have cut some limbs and the wood is spectacular, like I said the trunk is 60' straight. What's it worth ?

Greetings Andre:

First, I do not appraise or value trees over the internet or via telephone--especially for yard trees. Appraisals must be conducted in-person and on-site.

As I’ve mentioned many times before “tree value” is a function of many different variables: species; merchantable log length; diameter (diameter at breast height or diameter at the small end of a log); volume; quality (i.e., grade); etc. Your tree could be worth in excess of a $1000 or it could be worthless from a traditional lumber standpoint (i.e., it’s a firewood tree).

Valuing yard trees as sawtimber is even more complicated because of the liability and physical cost of the tree removal. These costs are generally high because most yard trees are situated in tight, physical locations: next to houses, garages, utility lines, decks, driveways, patios, etc. Therefore, the tree removal costs alone tend to erode all potential net value the tree may have had as a sawlog. And it all honesty, the vast majority of yard tree removal projects end up becoming a net cost to the homeowner, not a net profit.

Again, I do not appraise trees over the phone or Internet, as there are simply too many variables to consider. If you absolutely need/want to value your standing yard tree, then please contact a local professional forester or a certified arborist.

Best of luck!
