We recently on a whim bought One Chinese Chesnut tree....Due to no pollination will it still produce the spiny catkins? If so do not want to plant in our yard...thnx for your help

Greetings Marlene:

Chestnuts are monoecious, meaning they bear both male and female flowers exist on the same tree. However, most Chinese chestnut are self-sterile, thus requiring cross pollination from other trees for successful nut production. Regardless, all Chinese chestnuts will produce the spiny burrs.
