Return to Timber Trespass

Theft of Black Walnut Trees (IA)

Man and two helpers caught after cutting 3 to4 of my black walnuts, one about 80 years old, others 16 to 18" in diameter. I pressed charges and the sheriff is charging him with trespassing and damages since he thinks the thief has legitimate excuse for thinking my land belonged to a neighbor who let the man do some cutting.

Man hired to cut trees at another farm nearby came over when everyone still there said trees were cut poorly, est value approx. $700, no estimate given for pick up load of firewood and another load taken away the day before. How do I find out if this is accurate?

Hi Sally:

I would strongly encourage you to involve the services of a professional consulting forester as they have a lot of experience regarding timber trespass / timber theft incidents.

Best of luck!
