Best Forest Management Program Options (IL)

We have a house on 10 acres of crop land, we started planting last fall 8 - 10 ft evergreens for a wind break. This spring we would like to finalize the north west windbreak and begin planting trees on the remainder of the acreage. What plan is available for us? Is there planning support from forestry management for layout. Are trees available from the state nursery? When can we apply for one of the programs?

Hi Bill,

Three options immediately stand out: (1) Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP, (2) Environmental Quality Incentives Program, or EQIP, and (3) Illinois Forestry Development Act, or IFDA.

CRP and EQIP are USDA programs; therefore, please contact your county USDA Service Center for information on these two programs:

http://www.il.nrcs.usda.gov/contact/directory/ilcntys.html

IFDA is a state forest management program; therefore, please contact your local IL Dept. of Natural Resources district forester, Mr. Jeff Harris (815) 273-2768.

Best of luck!
