Bigtooth Aspen Tree Issues (IL)

We have several large bigtooth aspen trees in our woods. The leaves started falling off earlier this spring / summer. Started at the bottom of the trees and working its way up. They still have leaves left, but most are at the crown. Are the trees dieing? Or something else going on?

Hi Mike:

Maybe, maybe not -- tough to say without actually visiting the site and observing the trees and the symptoms. This could be stress induced by last year's drought, or it could be something else.

I would encourage you to contact your local IDNR district forester to schedule a site visit:
