Any ideas on these two?:

1) An ornamental tree not much taller than a dogwood in our yard blooms in August (unusual blooming time) with small yellow flowers that turn into Japanese lantern type seed bearing structures. The leaf is compound and leaflets are smooth edged, wavy. It is nice in that the leaves disintegrate in the fall and only the petioles remain on the ground. I don't think it is the golden chain tree.

2) A friend has a large tree whose leaves are similar to rhodendron leaves and even shinier. About 6 4-inch long leaves appear whorled on the ends of twigs. Large trunk is brown, not entirely smooth. She doesn't observe flowers on it.

Without high-resolution images, here are my best guesses:

1. Golden raintree (Koelreuteria paniculata)

2. Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia)

If you want a positive ID, take some pictures and leaf/fruit samples to your local Ohio State Cooperative Extension Office.
