Pin Oak Losing Leaves in September (IL)

Our pin oaks are losing leave and have dead branches. There is a pond behind our house. These trees are 30 years old. We would hate to lose them. There is also a younger oak, not pin oak, growing by them with browning on the tops of the top leaves. This tree is 10 years old and raised in this spot from an acorn. What should we do to diagnose these problems?

I wouldn't worry too much about the premature leaf drop, assuming these trees were fine all summer. After all, it is September 12 and we've been pretty darn dry the past 4-5 weeks! Not to mention last year's excessive heat and drought -- trees are obviously going to be under stress!

However, you can always contact a certified arborist for an on-site evaluation of the tree/trees in question!
