What is a good chemical to use in a "hack and squirt" timber stand improvement practice instead of mechanical girdling? Looking for something that will get the job done without transfer through roots to neighboring trees. Any suggestions?

Herbicides with the active ingredient Triclopyr-amine (water soluble), applied at the labeled rate, are generally not known to cause flashback. However, you as the applicator are required to read the label and follow all herbicide directions as the University of Illinois is not responsible for the misapplication and misuse of pesticides.

Commonly sold as Garlon 3A, Triclopyr 3A, Element 3A, etc.
