I am planting a grass area that is about 1/2 an acre. I will plant white oaks and maybe some walnut. How far apart should I plant the trees?

Depends...what is your objective (i.e., what are you trying to accomplish)? Are you planting trees for timber production? Or, are you planting trees for wide crowns and more of a park-like appearance?

Most reforestation practices in Illinois are planted to 436 trees/acre (10' x 10' spacing).

Hello,

I was wondering the same. I have a larger size side yard as I’m on a corner. I would LOVE a park like-appearance and would like as many trees as I can fit. I love Oak trees. How far apart do you recommend for the park like appearance

If you want to maintain an open park-like experience when the trees are larger, you will need to plan for the spacing to give enough room for the canopies to spread. Often, something like a 25' x 25' spacing is used when trying for more open grown trees.
