Property Taxes on 1.3 Acres (IL)

Afternoon Last year I was given about an acre and half. Massac county is going to tax me about $700/yr. That just don't seem right?? My son is going into forestry and said we can put in a forestry plan? Can you help and what the cost would be to look at our woods. Thank you for your help -John H.

Greetings John: Yeah, that seems a little steep! Unfortunately, 1.3 acres won't qualify you for any kind of forestry programs here in Illinois. You can try contacting your local IDNR office to see if you can get some alternative ideas from the wildlife biologist or heritage biologist. Best of luck!
