I have a black walnut tree in my front yard the thing is huge.I think it is about 50-60 years old. The gas company says it has to come down coz of the roots and the gas line. any way can I sell the tree or should I just let the gas company take care of it . they said they would remove it. free of charge. there are about 8-10 trees on my st that have to be removed.

Dorothy:

I would definitely let the gas company remove these trees for you since NOBODY is going to pay you to remove yard trees.

You can try to sell the merchantable portions (i.e., logs) after the gas line cuts them down for you; simply ask the gas company to leave the larger log portions. Granted, they may balk at this request.

Contact your local California Cooperative Extension office for a list of custom sawmill operators or woodworkers:

Best of luck!
