Do I measure side to side of a black walnut tree or circumference. Do you know where in Ohio to contact a forester for a estimate on number of harvest trees and board feet.

We always measure standing trees at breast height, or 4.5' above soil line -- this is called diameter at breast height, or DBH. Ohio DNR Division of Forestry: http://forestry.ohiodnr.gov
