Black Walnut Investment (NY)

My friend and are going to plant walnut trees in upstate NY to be harvested 35-45 years down the line (we are both 25). Our scheme is choose a wooded lot with timber value, fall the trees ourselves, borrow my uncle's tractor to organize the trees for pickup by loggers in order to maximize profit and use that cash to offset the initial start up costs. We also may create an LLC to take advantage of tax benefits.

Assuming we end up with 10 acres of land suitable for optimum black walnut growing with the intention of harvesting in 35-45 years, how should we go about actually moving forward with this venture? Fast growing "genetically altered" seedlings, weed and deer control, maintenance etc....

Hi Ben:

Due to the complexity of your questions, I'm going to refer you directly to a local forester in New York who can help you develop a in-depth plan for your venture!

Best of luck!
