Honeylocust D-shaped Holes (IL)

What are the "D" shaped holes we are beginning to encounter in dead and dying honeylocust trees? It seems to be an increasing occurrence in the locust trees we deadwood or remove. Thank you.

Hi Jim: Based on your description, it appears to be some type of borer, possibly the honeylocust borer. In order to be more diagnostic, you'll need to take some detailed pictures of emergence holes, galleries, and possibly some larvae.
