Trimming or Pruning Soft Maple (IL)

We have a soft maple that has several dead limbs through out. Had a tree service look at it this spring and said to trim it up and would probably get a few more years out of the tree. Some of these limbs overhang our decorative fence and are near a building. Wondering what we should do, trim up or just take the tree down altogether?

Hi Mike:

These kind of questions are nearly impossible to answer because I would need to see the tree(s) in question.

However, it doesn't seem worth it in my opinion to service this tree twice when the most likely outcome is going to be its eventual removal within a couple years.
