I am having an issue with my mature white oaks in that they are dying all around my house. Is there a disease that is going on affecting this tree? If so can I do anything to stop the spread?

Hi Charles:

We are witnessing white oak and bur oak mortality across the entire state. Missouri and Iowa are also witnessing this phenomenon now referred to as Rapid White Oak Mortality.

The droughts of 2011-2012, compounded with old age, stand density, herbicide drift, and pathogens are likely the causal agents.

Here is article about Rapid White Oak Mortality: http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2014/12/mofhup14.pdf

Please contact a local professional consulting forester for advice regarding Rapid White Oak Mortality:
