Dear Forester,

Do you have any suggestions for thinning a grove of Hawthorns? It seems that part of my site to the southwest has become a bit overgrown. I fulling intend to keep some of the Hawthorns; however, removing them one by one seems to be a bit painful. Any ideas?

Thank you for your time and expertise, Cindy

Hi Cindy:

Removing hawthorn trees individually is your only option unless you want to hire a contractor or consulting forester with a skid-steer w/ a brush-mulching head (e.g., Fecon). The latter option, however, is significantly more expensive. Additionally, you can always hire a consulting forester to do this work for you "manually:"
