Connecticut Black Walnut

I have a couple walnut trees that are very old (planed in the 1800s). Before I go through the expense of harvesting, milling and drying the wood, I want to make sure the lumber will be good quality. The trees are in Connecticut, is this in the "good" growing area and because the trees are in Connecticut, does this mean the logs might be of lesser quality?

Hi Mike: I wouldn't say Connecticut-grown black walnut trees are inferior. However, I wouldn't say Connecticut is a premier walnut growing region either. The only way to know for sure is to fell the trees in order to determine if the resultant wood is sound for producing lumber. Best of luck!
