Is there a way that I might spray the 1 foot across and down area of the slime flux with a solution of clorox to clear out the odor? Also, could I place some lime on it to help the tree in some way? Please advise me about this. The beautiful tree is close to 60 years old. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWER. Marge Overlot

Hi Marge:

There are no known treatments for slime flux and bacterial wetwood. Therefore, lime is not going to "cure" anything.

As a temporary measure, you can hose down the fetid area and follow-up with a < 10% spray solution of bleach.
