Norway Maple Decline

My 30 year old Norway Maple has been sparse and drooping all summer and now has dead leaves just hanging from it's branches. I see several other trees in the neighborhood with the same issues. We've gone through Dutch Elm disease and the Emerald Ash Borer and I'm afraid we've got something else brewing. The sugar maple next to it is still thriving. Thoughts?

It could be verticillium wilt -- but that's just a wild guess. You can always send samples to the UI Plant Clinic for potential diagnosis (assuming it is a pathogen).
